Advancement of Literacy Award

Presented by the Public Library Association and Library Journal

To submit an application for this award, please visit PLA's Awards Online Application.

Definition and Criteria

The Advancement of Literacy Award committee members are responsible for nominating an award winner at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. That selection is given to the PLA Board of Directors at that meeting, where the name of the winner is announced.

The award, a plaque, will be presented at the PLA President’s Reception during the ALA Annual Conference.

All nominations must be  submitted by December 3, 2007. Please use PLA's online awards application to nominate the publisher, bookseller and/or software dealer, foundation or similar group (that is, not an individual) you feel deserves national recognition. Criteria used for judging nominations include: (1) amount of support given to libraries for literacy projects; (2) evidence of long-term commitment to literacy; and (3) encouragement provided to other groups to undertake similar activity.
